Environment Protection
As a part of the Orkla ASA Group, the Vitana, a.s. company meets not only the requirements and limits of European and Czech legislation, but has also set its own particular environmental goals which exceed statutory regulations.
The basis for successful fulfilment of goals in the environmental area is also due to the company´s personal responsibility to all of its workers, whose combined efforts primarily concentrates on the following areas:
1. Reducing the production
power demands2. Improving the quality
of waste waters3. Reduction of the amount
of wastes, and increasing
the percentage of recycling4. Raising environmental
protection awareness
of our employees
1. Reducing the production power demands
The Vitana company strives to lower the power consumption in all of its plants (Byšice, Roudnice on Labe, Varnsdorf). Since 2006, implementation of various measures, such as the regulation of heating inside manufacturing premises, the exchange of lighting sources in the changing rooms, the adjustments of the compressors regime, and the installation of thermal insulations of roofs and the like, has contributed to an energy savings of 8% and a natural gas savings of 17%.
2. Reduction of the amount of wastes, and increasing the percentage of recycling
In the last two years, the total amount of produced wastes was reduced by 11%. The long-term effort of our team to recycle as much waste as we can also includes regular monthly inspections of sorted waste and the subsequent evaluation of the best results.
3. Improving the quality of waste water from production
Each plant has its own waste water treatment facility whereby water quality from the drained waste water is inspected on a regular basis. The quality of the drained waste water is improved through various means such as through sanitation of the production facilities primarily by means of phosphorus free detergents.
4. Raising environmental protection awareness of our employees
Our long-term plan is to raise environmental protection awareness of every employee. Periodical trainings are held, and information materials with current topics of ecological considerations issued each month.
